Reya’s first trip to India

Reya and I flew to India on Sept 11th 2013. This was Reya’s first trip to India and she and I were flying alone without daddy. Needless to say I was very nervous about doing the long flight all by myself with my toddler! But to my surprise Reya was a great kid and gave me almost no trouble during the 30 hours of flight. We had packed tons of toys, snacks and books for the flight. Those along with her long naps made the flights bearable for both of us.

This trip was great since she is now old enough to remember events and make memories. She had a great time with her grandparents and we ended up spending most of our time in Pune. She took to Nanu masi instantly and the two made a great bond which I hope lasts a lifetime. She took very well to everything in India and enjoyed the little things like taking a bath in a bucket, bonding with the maid (ajji bai we call her fondly), meeting our building watchmen and gardeners whom I have known for almost 15 years. She was amazed to see stray dogs and couldn’t figure out why there were dogs without leashes and who their papa was :-). The exposure on the entire trip helped tremendously in her overall development! Needless to say she missed papa and bubu like crazy, and while she was in India she learned that papa has a name, “Vasi” became her call for papa :-).

Reya also had her first encounter with navratri celebrations, for which we got a new ghagra choli made for her from Nanu’s shop. She loved all the music and dancing and festivities. Her first trip to India also took her to her Nana’s most favorite get away place; none other than Mahabaleshwar!

She met her cousins from the extended family who I hope she remembers until we see them again. It was a great trip with a lot of fun memories!
